It's a Bridge-Car Thingy

For this sem I had to take up this retarded... unique* unit called EFPC: 100. It's a unit that made me hustle a lot, with plenty of reports went by. Well it was a huge relief for all of us when we finally finished every single crap yesterday. My group had our presentation yesterday (we were the last group when we wanted to be the first, wtf) and it was great.

Nothing much to post up this time except for the pictures we took.

Designer of this car (one of a kind) - Stephen

And so the car crossed to bridge... into the welcoming arms of a happy Jayme.

We (Vivian, Jayme, me, Gabriel and Stephen) are the geniuses that built this crap.

Behold the second piece of crap we built - Bridge (or should I say something that looks like one)

Nicholas, Jayme, Vivian, me and Alex. (we're smiling but actually we're dying to go home...)

Well all things considered, our EFPC project was a huge success. We were not that into the constructions of both bridge and car but during the testing both of our prototypes worked wonderfully.

Now that this is done and dusted, it's time to start studying. The damned final exams are just 2 weeks away... the ticket to Perth...

Geology Fried Trip

Required to be at campus' student drop zone by 7.30am and I set my alarm at 6.00am the previous night. It rang thrice, I ignored it thrice and woke up at 7.29am. SMS-ed Jay, whom I was supposed to pick up too, "Shit dude, sorry I woke up late". Rushed the hell outta my systems and drove the hell outta my car engine. Reaching campus at 7.58am with everyone on board the bus already. Consolation - our Geology lecturer Mr. Masa (an awesome Jap!) was late as usual himself.

Totally not a great way to start a field trip which was bound to be hot and furious. Although it has to be said that the weather when we started the journey to the outskirts of Miri was cloudy and nice.

I started to have my breakfast in the bus when I realised something. I forgot to visit the toilet before I left home, thanks to the rushing, which in turn was thanks to the fact that I woke up late. So yeah, had my breakfast in a rather... uncomfortable way and the trip to the first site was quite a torture. But I knew that all was needed was to be at the first site. By standing up and sweating away all would be alright.

Well now, pictures, take it away.

Piece of crap... crop* we were required to sketch. See those vertical lines? They are called faults and came into being due to some unconformity occurring on the crop surface. They are several layers, namely... oh sorry, on to the next picture.

Rejoice! Fossils that looked like human crap.

Soon, from the "cloudy and nice" weather, it really turned "hot and furious".

Left to right: Jayme, Alex the StrawHat Policeman, me and Vivian.

WW2 Japanese Burrows (explains why Mr. Masa brought us there)

After the third site, we went back to Miri and to Tanjung Lobang. It was like a 360 degree change in climate dimension. It was so hot before and when we reached Tanjung it was so windy that made my room's air conditioner look extremely pathetic. We went to get some ABC and it was surprisingly nice. Anyway Tanjung was so cooling to us that we didn't feel like leaving for site four. Likewise for Mr. Masa I guess. We caught him snoozing on the grass... this ought to be a nice blackmail material to aid my Geology 102 paper =)

The beach... no idea what to describe about here.

We soon got darn bored that we decided to float abit...

Yeah we basically spent the whole day out.

Mr. Masatoshi Sone from the Land of the Rising Sun!

All in all, a much more interesting field trip compared to sem one. (Much better weather too!)
With minor sunburns this time, signing out.

A Triumph praised by many

By far the coolest US president of all times, Barrack Obama has just been chosen for the Nobel Peace Price. Yeah, you've seen it right.

Now, the question in many people's mind is - "Is this a boost or bust?"

Personally, I don't agree that Obama should have won this price. Well it's not that I dislike him, in fact I support his work fully. It's just that I doubt that he has done enough, or should I say been in the chair long enough to be fully justified of this price. One has to wonder, if he managed to be chosen due the fact that he's Barrack Obama - if you get what I mean.

To me, it's something like, an award achieved due to fame. Picture maybe... our Prime Minister Najib, being awarded all kinds of top notch stuff from the Agong just because he came up with the idea of 1Malaysia after being our leader for less than a year. No offence, but yeah... I still firmly believe that more has to be proven, which is impossible in a short amount of time (half a year or so), until one can be awarded with a price so... huge.

Of course, we're all happy for Obama. The choice of President Barrack Obama for the Nobel Peace Price was cheered just last Friday (9 October 2009) by a global chorus from European leaders to minibus passengers in Kenya — but it also elicited criticism over the decision to break with tradition and recognize hopeful promise over concrete achievement. It was said that "Obama is seen as having changed the direction of U.S. foreign policy, reversing many of his predecessor's unilateral policies and emphasizing the need for diplomacy, cooperation and mutual respect." Well true enough, and now everyone is hoping for better and much more promising things from Obama. One has to believe that he can deliver. The pressure of delivering though, is one major chink in the armour he has to deal with.

Unfortunately, lately Obama has been quite busy, trying to push Chicago as the host for the 2016 Olympics. Not too shabby isn't it, the US president himself getting into the thick of things.

Just vote for Chicago damn it.

By the way, what's with those tsunami alerts earlier this week? All those "11pm - Tsunami Alert - run for your lives - facebook spams" crap. Most of us were hyped up bout the prospect of a tsunami coming, not rightfully so of course. Well er... thanks I guess, for those that sent me the tsunami alert SMS. But for now I'd rather do something more meaningful and not a fake alarm - like eating durian =)

With the sweet scent of durian still lingering on my fingers, signing off!

Thehhh Goinng Onsss

Oh my, I've idled this blog for two weeks now, so this is certainly a long long overdue post. Well the past two weeks have been of mixed moods. The week before the holidays was a very busy one indeed, with assignments and stuff whilst last week I enjoyed the one week raya break mostly by going out with friends.

In other words, it's not that I had no time to post, it's more like I didn't have the mood to. Well, gamed with Hayden, Belden, Bui, Qing De and Adam, who was enjoying his raya too. A belated wish to Adam here, is alright yeah? xD So of course, when we're gaming constantly over the week I totally had no thoughts of coming here to post anything. It has been rather funny for the past few years, as our gang always wished Adam and Edzrul (his lil bro) "Selamat Hari Raya" whilst in game or in our clan chat. We're all game fanatics so I don't think anyone would mind. Plus Adam's not in Miri anymore so online is the best way to send our regards to him.

We had a mini lunch gathering with Pollux in mid week. Went to... Passionate Corner... or something like that. It was a fine dining area that's rather close to Jayme's inn. As I mentioned before, Pollux managed to attain a Shell scholarship, permitting him to further his studies in Bristol City, UK. Congratulations to him, though it's too bad that we won't be seeing him until next year's June/July or so. I was very pleased with the lunch, as were the other guys, because we all found the food to be very delicious. After the lunch we went to GCM for some snooker action. We played a 2v2 match, Hay/Bel vs Me/Qing De. Qing De was completely new towards snooker and guess what, she pocketed the most balls and even won the match by pocketing the final black ball. We were all perplexed by her abilities, and I guess I teamed with the right person after all =)

On Friday night I went for another gathering, this time it was Dellon's birthday party. Happy birthday to him that's for sure, but the main attraction fo the party was his mum's cooking. Top notch as usual, we enjoyed the food so much that we finished the lagsania so fast. I guess I was too conservative, as I only took two pieces and had no chance for a second round. All of us gamed around with Dell's PS2 and for Qing De, it was a stark contrast of fortunes this time out as all of us pawned her in all the arcade games. We had no idea where or who she was aiming at most of the time. And oh yeah, Roland brought along a full bottle of vodka. Hay, Bel and I took 2 shots each and our face went so red that it was evident that we're not drinkers. Rol on the other hand, being his usual self, took in more than 10 shots and still looked neutral. Side effects? Yeah the next day all of us had hangovers...

Well I'm posting this up as I commence the last part of this semester, after rushing my report last night like hell. Typical of all uni students I guess, as we all slacked around during the holidays and only rushed the assignments on the penultimate day. All of my friends went back to their unis, and some, like Pollux, Ngin Jion and Tse Yui went to UK. Sarah you asked why everyone's going to Aussie and not the UK, well, if you wanna swap positions with me I'll be more than glad to take up your offer. I'm a Manchester United fan, you'd understand now yea? xD

Till next time!

Pretty Occupied

I've been busy; I've been procrastinating; I've been stressing

"I've been through hell" can be easily defined via the week I've just experienced. No means of exaggeration, the combination of one crazy report and an extremely tough mid sem exam was just a recipe for driving me nuts. I had this EFPC report which had to be submitted last Friday, and I only managed to get the required information from another group I was assigned to on Wednesday. Needless to say that it took one hell of a night to finish the report on time. Unfortunately for me too was the fact that it was a contractor's report, whereas designers' report are due only this week. If only I took up the role of a designer sooner than Vivian and Jayme...

Why? Well Electrical System 100's mid sem exam was two days after the report's submission. Arguably the toughest unit of this year, I've been procrastinating since two weeks ago - "Aiyah study next week lah..." until now... pushing myself to an extent that I ended up having only two nights to study four lectures =.=

There's no point looking back at the revision days as they were like... the ultimate struggle. Then came the morning of Sunday, physically prepared but mentally drained like a skinned banana. There were only two questions alright... and yeah perhaps you've guessed it right, I had no clear idea to do any of em and most probably I would get both wrong. This mid sem paper deals 20% of the overall unit marks, looks like the only practical thing to do now is to double time for the remaining 80%...

Oh yeah, just the other day I went for the EFPC site visit over at SOPB (Sarawak Oil Palm Berhad). It was a crappy experience, and the place really smelled like shit. Perhaps some of the processes to convert the palm fruit to oil gave out tat terrible odour but who cares, I was concentrating solely on trying my best to "survive".

Just some random pictures we took:

X-Men Origins: Wolverine VS Shit Smell Origins: Fresh Palm Fruit

Just somekinda chart, I think

Heaven!... for squirrels

For some reason I just love this pic. (Jayme was enjoying it, very much so)
#Massive credit goes to Vivian for capturing this pic. I appreciate it so much.

Right to left: Alex, Vivian, me, Jayme and an asshole who just won't go away

Well now, one more week of classes before the raya holidays start. Can't wait!
That's that for this entry, till next time.

Reality Zero. not

There are days when I think,
seeing is always believing.
Likewise under crazy circumstances,
I lose sight of the answer,
and the more I search for it.

Let's start walking now,
something is about to begin.
Even if shocks come into play,
with you I can always,
look forward to something real.

Although it'd be good,
if those feelings get to you,
without me needing to speak a word.
Things change,
when something really absurd appears.

How absurd?
It's movie like, or should I call it one from,
Unreal Tournament.
Something which appears fictionally,
in nightmares.

And so,
I held your hand,
the colour of the town changes little by little.
I want to find a smile in your transparent eyes,
when I see something... wanting a definite meaning...

Failing because...
Just...
WTFFFF is this lurking around local grounds?!!

LOL?

A very gigantic python (to us yea?) found in Senadin area during the bush fire recently. Seriously man. What the hell?! *It's mid portion, rather bulgy. Just ate a poor cow or orang utan perhaps.*

Hanging Pieces

Bound for Perth next year and there are so many things which need to be done but cannot be done for now. This semester has been a very busy one indeed, which leaves me with little time to ponder on the things which need to be done. For now they are just numerous pieces of a puzzle, hanging around waiting to be put together.

1) Housing wise, Jayme, Vivian and I are trying our best to find a 3-room house but there's this someone, whom we dislike, wanting to join us. Extremely annoying and lame, we're in fact focusing our attention to avoid this person rather than worrying about our house.

2) Another course mate of ours - Alex, unfortunately failed his Geology paper of last sem. He's trying to get permission from the HoD to retake the unit in Perth. However it seems like he's more interested in reading manga, doing so in campus computer labs whenever there's free time rather than going to find the HoD. We're hoping that he could go Perth with us so for now his situation is another piece of the unsolved puzzle.

3) We haven't book our tickets yet. Last cheap price we saw was a 518 to Perth, but Vivian said her mum's friend bought one 100+ before. Sounds rather absurd and too-cheap-to-be-true but we'll see. Knowing how AirAsia operates... there will be more types of prices to come that's for sure.

4) Our transfer forms to the Bentley campus have not been submitted yet. Word is that it'll need few months of time to be processed and approved by the Bentley. Now that's bad.

5) Last but not least, we're struggling with our units this semester. Freakingly tough, there's no point to complete any of the first four tasks if we fail one of our units aight?

Unlike one of my friend Pollux, he is leaving for the UK soon to continue his studies. With a Shell Scholarship in hand, his future is secured, both study and work wise. Well just two days ago we went for his birthday party and as usual, his annual party was not short of fun.

Looks like the huge number of people kinda overwhelmed that little birthday cake in front of Pollux. He's 18 now, the "legal" age yea?

With the holidays just passing its' 50% mark, I've done... basically nothing really. There are three more reports to complete and the only words that are circulating in my mind everyday - "Aiyah do tomorrow lah..."
